How do you transport a car for maintenance and treatment of the railway electrification lines, which is considered abnormal cargo?
As a company that specializes in complex logistics projects, we were happy to take on the train transportation project with all its complexity.
Since this is an unusual and heavy cargo, which passed between countries until it reached its destination in Israel, the first step carried out by our projects department is the construction of an accurate transport plan according to an arranged schedule according to the customer's request, which included coordination between countries, route mapping operations In order to identify and minimize obstacles and risks on the way, such as bridges and narrow roads, police permits and more.
The project began in France, at the manufacturer's factory, where the trailer was loaded using 2 overhead cranes onto a "land tank carrier – MAFI", with supervision on the ground by a representative of our strategic partner Geodis, and only after approval from him, the cargo was transported by land to Belgium, from where roller coasters leave for Israel .
Upon the arrival of the trailer in Antwerp, the cargo was loaded onto a roller ship, after obtaining a port permit for unusual cargo that is not a vehicle, in coordination with the shipping company, with the destination being the port of Ashdod.
Upon arrival at the port in Israel, unloading was carried out by a dedicated crane, in the presence of Amit Schaff personnel who videotaped the suitability of the trailer in accordance with the instructions given by the manufacturer.
From the dock, the heavy railcar was towed on top of the tank carrier to near the railroad tracks inside the port, where it was hoisted directly onto the railroad tracks.
The total length of the journey from the supplier in France to the unloading and transfer to the railway tracks in the port of Ashdod – 23 days net.
Meeting the schedule was of critical importance, because the trailer had to be unloaded on the railway in the port, which is in operation all the time. And therefore, we made an exact coordination of the schedule in order to carry out the unloading on time and to prevent delay and disruption of the train's activity.
