LCL (Less than Container Load)
LCL is a method of shipping via ocean, for when you don't have enough volume for an entire container.
An LCL cargo will be consolidated with other LCL shipments into one container at the CFS at origin.
After cotainer is filled, it is transferred to a shipping company for sea transportation.
When the vessel arrives at the destination port, the shipping company picks up the container and brings it to the warehouse or CFS, then the cargo will be deconsolidated.
In LCL cargo – the freight fees and charges are calculated according to the volume or weight of the cargo – whichever is higher.
shipping LCL can cut expenses, since unlike FCL, you don't pay for a whole container. in addition, LCL can be a good solution for times of shortage of containers on ships since it's easier to get an LCL then an FCL.
But it's importent to know that LCL shipments usually take longer since the cargo needs to be checked before loading, and checked thoroughly again at destination in order to verify amount and qulity of goods.
